Coach Marlon Gardinera
Scripps Ranch High School
Coach Marlon just helped Scripps Ranch High School win the 2021 CIF Division 2-A State Chamionship Title in December, and he was then named San Diego's 1st "State Coach of the Year" in California since 2006.
He played Baseball and Footbal at Mission Bay High School in 1991, went onto Oklahoma State, and was eventually drafted to the MLB minors.
In January of 2008, Gardinera found out that he had Amyliodosis, a disease in which protein mutates around the body and attacks various organs, and he was given only one or two years to live. He received a liver transplant and has since been "on the clock".
He Coaches Football mainly to be with his 2 sons, Nick (now w/ SDSU) and Noah, but the other kids on the teams have benefited from Marlon's other goal; The team’s combined GPA in 2019 was 3.71 (a total that made Gardinera cry when he first heard about it). 2020's GPA also has now come in: 3.74.
In 2020, he and his son were named a lawsuit against Gavin Newsome and the State of California to "LET THEM PLAY", a lawsuit to make CA stop the COVID restrictions and let High School State sports open. They won!
